Privacy Policy for the Faustica App

In short

Faustica does not collect any data about you on its own. Everything you write and create in Faustica stays on your device. There is no user account, no tracking, no advertising, no usage statistics and no crash reports. I never get to see your texts. Data only reaches me if you send me a message yourself via "Feedback".

Your data stays on your device

Faustica stores your projects, texts, characters, notes, images and settings only locally, in the app's data folder on your computer. They are not transferred to me or to any third party. The same applies to the trial period: the date it started is also stored only on your device.

Backups and exports

Faustica saves backups and exports (for example PDF, EPUB or DOCX) only to the folder you choose. If that folder is in a cloud storage service such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, that service transfers the files according to its own privacy policy. I have no influence on this.

Purchases via the App Store and the Microsoft Store

Faustica is sold only through the Apple App Store and the Microsoft Store. To make a purchase, to restore purchases and to check whether you own the full version, Faustica connects to the respective store through your operating system's purchasing system. Apple and Microsoft handle this process as independent controllers. Their privacy policies apply:

I receive no payment data and no data that would allow me to identify you personally. The stores only provide me with aggregated sales reports.

You also receive updates for Faustica through the respective store. Faustica itself does not check for updates and does not connect to any of my servers for this.

Feedback from the app

You can send me a message via "Feedback" in Faustica. It is only sent when you click "Send" yourself, and only what you can see in the feedback window is sent:

The message is sent encrypted (HTTPS) to a small script on my web space at ALL-INKL.COM (Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany), with whom a data processing agreement is in place. The script immediately forwards it as an email to my mailbox at Posteo (Posteo e.K., Berlin) and does not store it itself. All that remains on the web space is a log entry without content and without IP address: time, category, app version, number of images and whether a reply address was given. To prevent abuse, the script also briefly keeps a counter under a hashed value of your IP address, which is deleted after one hour at the latest. As with any request to my web space, ALL-INKL may additionally create server log files. Details can be found in the privacy policy of the website.

I only use your message to read it, reply to it and improve Faustica. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (handling your request) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in handling feedback and fixing bugs). I only publish a success story with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by email. I delete feedback emails once they have been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

Instead of the feedback window, you can also write to me directly at faustica@posteo.de.

When you click a link in Faustica, the page opens in your default browser. From then on, the privacy policy of that website applies.

Your rights

Apart from feedback you send me yourself, I do not process any personal data about you through the app. Beyond that, there is therefore usually nothing I could provide information about or delete. Under the GDPR you nevertheless have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. If you have any questions, you can contact me at any time at faustica@posteo.de.

To delete your data in Faustica, uninstall the app and remove its data folder.

Changes

If Faustica changes in a way that affects how data is processed, I will update this policy.
