From my first HTML to my own app

How it all started.

I built my first website as a teenager, about 25 years ago. That turned into training as a software developer, several programming languages and the habit of always learning something new. For several years now, I’ve also been working in online marketing. I never gave up programming along the way.

Books have always been part of my life, old ones in particular. They’re written in a different style: more detailed, more descriptive, with great love for the little things. Back then, there were no photos or films to show what faraway lands looked like. Authors had to show their readers with words. That way of storytelling still inspires me.

I’m not an author (yet)

A book in my head, but no app that fit.

I have a book idea and the wish to write that book. When I looked for the right app, none of them really convinced me: too complicated, not intuitive, too fine-grained, full of settings I would never need.

So I built my own tool, piece by piece, over many months, and kept improving it. An app where everything builds on each other logically and explains itself. At some point I was convinced: this could make the path to a first book easier for others, too. That’s why Faustica is now available to everyone.

  • Your texts belong to you. Everything stays on your computer, with no account and no cloud.
  • I read every message myself. Feedback from the app comes straight to me. Good ideas that fit go straight into the app.
  • No risk to your texts. Every backup includes readable Word and Markdown copies of your manuscripts. Even if Faustica were gone one day, your texts would remain in these backups, in formats that common programs like Microsoft Word can open.
