Automatic versions preserve earlier states of your manuscript, so you can trace changes and go back to an older version if needed.
You can also create complete backups of your projects at a location of your choice. They can optionally be encrypted, and every backup includes readable Word and Markdown copies of your manuscripts.
Everyday saving is handled with care too: your project is written in a protected way, and the previous save is kept as an extra reserve.
